Life at UMOn Campus Accommodation
On-campus housing (Kolej Kediaman) is not guaranteed for all international students. However, priority is typically given to:
- • First-year international students
- • Students from countries with limited accommodation options in Kuala Lumpur
- • Students facing financial hardship
Japan Apartment and International House are usually reserved for postgraduate students, though they may still apply for placement in residential colleges.
Students should apply for hostel accommodation as early as possible through the UM Student Portal, as applications typically open 3–4 months before the semester begins.
Students cannot select their preferred residential college during the application process. Accommodation is assigned by the university based on availability and allocation policies.

APPLICATION
Students can apply for residential colleges by emailing: hep_penginapan@um.edu.my Applicants should explain their accommodation needs and attach important documents such as: • University offer letter • Passport-sized photo • Supporting or evaluation letter (if applicable) Applications typically open a few months before the semester begins, and students are encouraged to apply early because spaces are limited. After the application period closes, the university assigns students to residential colleges based on availability. Students will receive their accommodation results through the university system or email.
FACILITIES
Most residential colleges provide basic facilities to support student living. Common facilities include: • Study rooms • Cafeterias or food courts • Laundry facilities • Prayer rooms • Convenience stores • Sports and recreational spaces • Security and access control Facilities may vary slightly between residential colleges.
COSTS
The cost of staying in a residential college varies depending on the room type and facilities. Common room types include: • Single room • Twin-sharing room • Guest rooms • Apartment-style units (2-bedroom or 3-bedroom) Some colleges offer air-conditioned rooms or rooms with attached bathrooms, which may cost more than standard fan rooms.
