New Student Pass
Starting from October 2025, Universiti Malaya (UM) offers Visa Application Services to assist international students with their visa application process. The visa processing fee includes the following components: the e-VAL (Visa Approval Letter), student visa fee, medical screening fee, health insurance, i-Kad, Multiple Entry Visa fee, and applicable taxes. By default, visa processing at UM covers a duration of one year. However, some students have the option to request a visa for three years (prices vary accordingly). Please note that while UM assists in facilitating the EMGS e-VAL application process, all visa approvals are at the sole discretion of the Malaysian Immigration Department. All visa and processing fees paid are strictly non-refundable. For any further clarification, please contact eval@um.edu.my or join our visa support WhatsApp group.
Step 1 — Upload Documents on Maya
You are required to upload the following documents on Maya:
- Upload Professional Qualification Certificate.
- Health Declaration Form for Visa Processing. Please note that students from selected countries must provide a Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate.
- White background picture for Visa Processing (35×45 mm, jpg format).
- All pages of passport for Visa Processing (gathered into one PDF file).
- Admission Fee Receipt for Visa Processing (payment can be made through Maya along with offer acceptance).
- Upload TOEFL / IELTS / MUET result in PDF format.
- Upload Professional Qualification Transcript.
Step 2 — Track Your Visa Application
After receiving your EMGS application number, you can track your visa application progress on the EMGS tracking portal or via the EMGS Hub app.
Application progress breakdown:
- 5%Application Submission
- 15%Document Review
- 32%Application Processing
- 35%Pending Immigration Submission
- 70%Electronic Visa Approval Letter (eVAL)
- 80%Post-Arrival Medical Examination
- 100%Student Pass Issuance
Step 3 — Apply for Single Entry Visa (SEV)
After receiving your eVAL, or once your application reaches 70%, you can apply for a Single Entry Visa (SEV) through the Malaysia eVisa portal.
Step 4 — Book Your Flight & Arrive in Malaysia
After receiving your SEV, you can book your flight to Malaysia. Do not forget to fill in the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) before arrival.
Airport Arrival Checklist
- Print all documents before arrival: SEV, eVAL, MDAC, and Offer Letter.
- Download the EMGS Mobile app, log in, and fill in your arrival details (date, time, flight number, ticket details).
- Find the nearest EMGS Booth or ISAC (International Student Arrival Centre) at KLIA — KLIA 1 directions / KLIA 2 directions.
- Confirm yourself to the ISAC staff — they will assist and verify your documents.
- Proceed to Immigration. Tell the officer you are a new student.
- Ensure you receive a Special Pass stamp on your passport.
- After passport check, you are free to leave KLIA.
Step 5 — Orientation, Medical Check-Up & Passport Submission
Follow the UM Orientation timeline along with passport submission. The medical check-up takes place during this period.
Medical Check-Up
- Drink plenty of liquids beforehand.
- Follow instructions from UM and clinic staff.
- Bring your passport.
- You will not receive results directly — your EMGS tracking will update to 80% once results are submitted to EMGS.
Documents Needed for Passport Submission
- Verified documents from the EMGS / ISAC booth (usually gathered into one folder with a stamp on the front — bring this folder).
- Ensure your EMGS status is at 80% before going to the One Stop Centre (OSC).
- Hard-copy receipt for Personal Bond (RM 10) — pay via epay.um.
- Your passport.
Step 6 — Passport Collection at OSC
After your application reaches 100%, visit the One Stop Centre (OSC) to collect your passport with the student pass sticker affixed. Congratulations — you're officially an international student at Universiti Malaya!
