All international students at Universiti Malaya are required to have valid health insurance throughout their studies. Insurance is bundled into your visa processing fee for the initial student pass, and must be renewed separately each year thereafter via the MyUM Takaful Plan. This page also covers the medical facilities available to you on and near campus. For any insurance-related enquiries, contact etiqaagency.um@gmail.com.
Mandatory Insurance — Etiqa Takaful
All international students are required to hold a valid Etiqa Takaful insurance policy. For renewals, you must purchase the MyUM Takaful Plan directly. The plan covers inpatient and outpatient treatment, personal accidents, and other medical expenses as required by the Malaysian Immigration Department.
Renewal Reminder
Your insurance must be renewed before or at the same time as your visa renewal. The Etiqa Cover Note must be included in your renewal document submission.
Medical Facilities
You have access to two main medical facilities:
UMMC (Universiti Malaya Medical Centre / PPUM)
A premier teaching hospital located directly adjacent to campus. Provides specialist care, complex procedures, and 24-hour emergency services. Use UMMC for serious or specialist medical needs.
UM Student Health Clinic
Located on campus for minor ailments, routine check-ups, and basic medical consultations during study hours. This is your first stop for non-emergency health concerns.
