Dependent Pass Application
The Dependent Pass is a long-term social visit pass that allows immediate family members of UM students to stay in Malaysia. Students can only apply for a dependent pass for their families after their own Student Pass has been issued and they have arrived in Malaysia. Applications must be submitted at the UM Visa Unit. Documented proof of relationship is required for all dependents.
Eligibility
- All graduate students at UM are permitted to bring dependents.
- Undergraduate students — only those from EMGS-approved countries are eligible.
Who Qualifies as a Dependent
Only immediate family members are eligible:
- Legal spouse.
- Children under 18 years old.
- Parents.
Required Documents (All Dependents)
Dependent's Passport
- Most recent passport copy — 2 copies, all pages.
- Validity of at least 12 months.
- At least 5 blank pages.
- The following passport types are not accepted: Diplomatic, Official, Refugee, Temporary, Emergency.
Passport Photos
4 copies, 45 mm × 35 mm, white background. See the EMGS passport photo guidelines for full specifications.
Administrative Documents
- 2 original copies of Student Confirmation Letter from faculty.
- 1 copy of UM Student Offer Letter (new applications only).
- For children aged 7–18: original + copy of school's confirmation letter.
- Payment Receipt for Visa Processing Fee.
- Proof of Application Fee Payment to EMGS JOM PAY.
Relationship-Specific Documents
In addition to the universal documents above, the following are required based on the dependent's relationship to the student:
Spouse
- Marriage certificate (original + copy).
- Marriage certificate translated into English (original + copy).
- Relationship letter from the Embassy (original + copy).
Children
- Birth certificate (original + copy). For children born in Malaysia, the copy must be attested by the National Registration Department (JPN).
- Birth certificate translated into English (original + copy).
- Relationship letter from the Embassy (original + copy).
- Marriage certificate of parents (original + copy).
Parents
- Student's parents' marriage certificate (original + copy).
- Marriage certificate translated into English (original + copy).
- Student's own birth certificate (original + copy).
- Student's birth certificate translated into English (original + copy).
- Relationship letter from the Embassy (original + copy).
