Pre-Departure Checklist

Use this checklist before travelling to Malaysia. Visa and Immigration rules can change, so always confirm the final requirement through UM, EMGS or Malaysian Immigration.

Confirm your admission

Accept your offer in MAYA.
Set up your UM Siswa Mail and check it regularly.
Save your offer letter and acceptance confirmation as PDFs.

Prepare your visa documents

Apply for your eVAL through UM and follow the EMGS application status.
Check whether your nationality requires a Single Entry Visa (SEV) or another entry arrangement.
Keep your passport valid for at least 18 months and make sure your name matches your application.
Prepare a white-background passport photo, academic certificates, transcripts, English certificate and any required personal-bond documents.

Before booking your flight

Confirm your SEV or eVisa requirement with the Malaysian embassy or high commission if unsure.
New students should normally enter no earlier than two weeks before UM Orientation Week.
Send your SEV or eVisa to UM’s eVAL team at eval@um.edu.my when available.
Keep the eVAL, passport, offer letter and visa documents in your hand luggage, not checked baggage.

Plan your arrival

Complete the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card within the three days before arrival.
Download the EMGS app and submit your arrival details if requested.
Book UM airport pickup only within the published dates and slots. Otherwise arrange transport to UM yourself.
Arrange a Malaysian SIM or roaming data so you can contact your driver and university.
